Harold Altman (1924-2003)
Harold Altman was born on April 20, 1924, and died in Pennsylvania on July 28, 2003. He graduated from Cooper Union Art School in his birthplace of New York City. After graduation he moved to Pennsylvania, but spent much of his time in Paris, France.
Known for his etchings, Altman had more than 300 solo exhibitions and earned numerous honors, including two Guggenheim Fellowships, a Fulbright-Hayes Senior Research Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts Grant, a National Institute of the Arts and Letters Award, and a Tamarind Lithography Fellowship. His work is a part of almost every major collection in the world, and his etching Path II is part of Georgia's State Art Collection.
